POODLES AGAINST WHATEVER (PAW)

The street light blinked intermittently as I approached the corner. All I wanted was catch a bus, go home, eat something and maybe watch some old cowboy movie on the tube. My focus was interrupted by a dog standing there; not just a dog, but a white poodle wearing a black beret with some type of flash on the front resembling a paw. He looked at me as I stood a few feet away causing an uneasy feeling, a trepidation. This poodle looked too intent, overly serious and I wanted nothing to do with it. Poodles are neurotic, sexually repressed, and just strange when their eyes are open.

I stood there for a few moments and then eased my way over to catch the newspaper headline. My eyes were scanning when suddenly two paws appeared and knocked newspaper box over. The poodle glared at me with beady brown eyes and then hissed out something always to be remembered.

"Look buddy, if you're too cheap to buy a paper, then why should I let ya have cheap glances over my shoulder, huhhhhh"

I was completely taken back by this Charles Bronson manner and finally stammered out, "you're talking! Where did you learn to talk?"

"Call me Pierre, Mac. Duhhhhhhhhhhh!! Learning to talk was easy--just cock your ear to stupid humans and gather all that knowledge in. That's why I have two savings accounts, a condo by the lake, an authentic carving of Lassie's nose and voted for Bush twice since he paid me."

"Well, well, what do you want, Pierre?"

"Easy enough....we organized to stamp out human repression, oppression and crappy impressions. Nothing worse than a human tryng to do an authentic poodle bark. Disgusting, absolutely disgusting."

"But you got an attitude and it seems like others are following you."

"Yah, we organized a militant group, PAW, Poodles Against Whatever, dedicated to freeing canines all over the world. So far we have trained pilots, mechanics, MacDonald's short order cooks and even a cocky French poodle taking Lance Armstrong on. Sure thing!!"

"You mentioned violence; turns me off," I said in a most convicing manner.

"Mac, we'll have 5 horny poodles all over you in a NY second doing all the wet stuff to convert or bore you to death through forced readings of Ann Coulter! Think of it as seeing Gallagher without wearing a full body condom."

"So, that's it, Pierre. You want to dominate humans."

"Oh, Mac, you're getting part of the picture. We already have humans in the palm of our paws. Watch any house and see who rules the routine-a dog. Unless, of course, they have a stinking cat. Cats can't be trusted, are just too stubborn and humans fall over them. Its their way or else. Hey, we go through all this stuff just to make humans think we're cute and cats do nothing but be cats. It just jerks my tail whenever I think about it!!"

"So what do you really want from us?"

"Food, recreation, no fetching the ball or stick,, an occasional night, freedom from stupid talk and oh, god, forgot those humans that want to make fashion statements with us. My so called owner wanted me to wear these polka dot ribbons that practically labeled me as a flamer, but I went radical instead to confuse her already neurotic life."

"Okay, this is a silent revolution where no one gets hurt?"

"Yah, kind of, Mac. But we reserve the right to bite anyone and make no promises. Another thing, badges, we hate those stinking animal control badges. Talk about people that need a high colonic and a vacation to Congress!! Kojack tried to come after me with a net, but I whipped out my all purpose growl which not only made him drop the enslaving instrument, but gave him a thought. Perhaps for the first time!

"Okay, I understand. Best thing to do is just stay out of your way, give you respect and treat equally."

"That about sums it up, Mac, but remember the urge to mistake you for a fire hydrant is always there."

"Well, Pierre, your turf is cool with me. By the way, where is your turf?"

"Wherever a poodle is oppressed; wherever a poodle is forced to undergo stupid fur styling done by a human barber school reject; wherever a postal carrier gets too cocky; and most of all, wherever dogs are in stupid commercials."

"Hey, Mac, you know we've already infiltrated the White House and have place a high level mole in the Oval Office. Won't tell you who, but our contact is in contact with us every day. By the way, the White House pooch is a doozie, flaky and needs Prozac. There's a new day dawning and Bush will tremble when PAW strikes. You should read some Marx, Mao Tse Tung and Lenin. They all had their minds developed by poodles-no problem. Well, they did strange things around fire hydrants, always lifting their legs, but specialized training cured them of that."

"Okay, thats it...I'm going home. Sit down with my dog, a Toy Fox Terrier, and bond."

"Good deal, Mac, but terriers are hyper and like to bark in their sleep. Keep up the good work and remember we are always around watching. PAW is prepping for persistent acts to perpetuate poodle rights permanently.

I walked down the dimly lit street wondering if this had been just a dream. It was too bizarre, too strange and a talking dog.....I stepped across the street and was heading down the block where I live when a voice boomed out at me: "hey, don't jaywalk like that again or I'll ticket you." I froze in my tracks expecting a burly Irish-American cop to come out of the darkness to chastise me. Instead it was a grayish-white Poodle wearing a cop uniform. I shuttered and listened to the lecture until he nipped at my heels to go away.

I went home, took my clothes of, drew bath water and prayed not to have plumbing. The tech would probably be another poodle"

Tomorrow is another day.

ONCE UPON A TIME

Once upon a time there was a great King who beleived in each of his people and spent much time working with them to find their greatest potential. He spent many years helping the common folk and was very proud of a yearly surplus of money to assist anyone in the kingdom. This King was loved by all and he proudly loved each of his pople back in many different ways.

Unfortunately, there was one group which despised everything the King did with the common folk and felt he was improper and stupid to be seen with a peasant. Their essence hailed from a time when the King was divine and no one came near him, much less talk in a common manner. Their King had been out of power for years, but the yearning to return was strong; as strong as the need for more money to roll into the treasury and then into their private accounts again. Taxes are good, but defense contracts are better.

One day the wise and good King made a mistake...he was found with a palace intern not known for her past piety who was also on the payroll of the Nasties. The good King was not aware of her Nasty Affiliation and quickly apologized, but the Nasty Girl went public and created havoc among the shire. The King felt this was an issue between himself, spouse and daughter; but the Nasties publicized it over the entire breadth and depth of the land. The Good King kept it together though he did have to face the parliament to defend his actions and monarchy. He was allowed to stay, but told he needed to leave when the next year was over. The Good King obeyed and left a hefty surplus in the treasury.

The Nasties organized very quickly and decided upon a good King who really did not have that much experience, but his father was filthy rich. Secondly, this candidate, Sir Gump, was a born Nasty who liked to drink, carouse, ingest cocaine and be dishonest. The Nasties decided the best way to get him in was to rig the official ballot boxes with false bottoms already filled with votes for Sir Gump. Needless to say, Sir Gump became King Gump and his Queen, Pickles.

King Gump decided the best rule was by Divine Decree and petitioned the Almighty to grant him such. He spoke often of his conversations with the Creator and many came to believe he was of the same lineage, but others thought he suffered from a mental defect.

The King began gazing at himself each morning in a morning until the routine became obsessive. Continually looking upon himself caused detraction within the kindgom as Nasties raised taxes, took advantage of neighbors and chaos ruled. The King, however, was content to see his reflection as it should be; not as it was.

One day a heavenly trumpet blared and an envelope floated down from the heavens. The King's erswhile assistant, Sir Dick, grabbed the messsage and quickly took it to Sir Gump. The King hurriedly opened it, turned different shades of white and threw the document down.

Sir Dick picked up the discarded message and read:

Very shortly your mirror will be destroyed and distributed to all the people. Therefore, your image will only be found in the goodness reflected in each person's face. Go ye and sin no
more.

The King sent out for a Royal Shot of Chinaco.

PAT ROBERTSON FOUND GOD IN 1951

As many of you have probably heard, Pat Robertson has compared the judge's judicial activism to the same actions as El Quaeda. It ironic to hear Pat say this since so many skeletons are in his closet as well.

Pat was a first lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps serving in Japan in 1950. All was going well until the North Koreans invaded the South and a major war broke out. The Marines were the only fully trained military group available and were quickly ordered to board ships for Korea. Now, Pat didn't really like this idea since he had a good life going with his house maid, plenty of booze and all the other accoutrements. Consequently, Pat simply decided not to board the troop ship bound for a combat zone. Normally, this is construed as a major breach of the Universal Code of Military Justice with execution carried out for conviction, but Robertson was under a different god namely his father, a United States Senator. Pat boarded the next troop ship and was quickly assigned as a liquor control officer.

Not much would have been thought of this had not Robertson decided to brag about his combat record exploits while a presidential candidate during the 1988 campaign. Unfortunately, Representative Pete McCloskey, California, heard this incredible utterances and challenged the erstwhile former absent lieutenant since he was also assigned as an officer to the same unit. Robertson immediately hit him with a lawsuit, but McCloskey went one step further and obtained over 150 sworn affidavits from enlisted and officer personnel alike verifying Robertson failed to meet a troopship during war and senatorial intervention prevented disciplinary measures. Pat quickly dropped his lawsuit citing pressing presidential campaign business, but expeditiously moved the documents be sealed. They may have been, but the Marines certainly were not since it scuttled the absent lieutenant's aspirations.

This doesn't end Robertson's walking on the wild side. Years later he decided a certain ruler in Central America was a great Christian and surepititiously supplied money for his needs. Problem was this was illegal and secondly, Rios Montt, was now generally viewed as not being that pious by everyone. In fact, he was later cited by many rights groups for ordering massacres of several villages simply because they did not greet his soldiers the right way. When asked during an interview about this, Montt stated a villager threw a rock at his troops and obviously this meant they were communists since only communists would do a thing like that. The village was compeltely obliterated. Robertson like to feature Montt as a great Christian during segments in the 700 Club and really disliked any adverse reporting. Additionally, Robertson violated federal law by supplying the Contras directly, but the Reagan Administration looked the other way since they were so knee deep in violating federal law anyway.

Next we find Pat engaging in business deals with the despot leader of Nigeria, Charles Taylor. Pat wanted to invest thousands in a gold mine and quickly came to a deal with Taylor, but then learned only the representative body of Nigeria could approve the transaction. He quickly pulled it back and went around to the back door where a PERSONAL DEAL could be negotiated with Taylor for all the riches to come. Unfortunately, various world bodies quickly exposed Taylor as a brutal sadistic ruler who glorified in savagery and enriching his own coffers. Robertson quickly went to Taylor's defense branding him as a good Christian who has done a wonderful job bringing the word of God to his people. Regardless of the word, Taylor was later forced to flee for his life and his sad ugly story came out. Robertson stated his money was just a business lost anyway and left it at that.

You hear Pat talk a great deal about his humanitarian efforts in Africa, but closer examination shows these were commercial flights carrying machinery and other equipment for his business investments in lieu of the standard humanitarian loads. You see, God has told Pat to make money on the backs of various third world populations and it would uplift them.

Now, former Reverend Pat is chastising judges for beng judicially independent when they could have been making decisions better satisfying him and his ilk. He went further to compare them with Al Quaeda in their ruthlessness. Gosh, Pat, how does this compare to you being AWOL from your troopship and later supporting a ruthless dictator more bent on killing, raping and looting his own people. I think, Pat, you need to suck in a whole spoonful of alum to quiet your tongue from uttering such fluff. Its obvious God forsook you a long time ago or you would have made a profit in Nigeria.

Now, Friends, Pat doesn't really represent Christians; he simply asks them to give in order to have their investments assist only those who truly need them: dictators, gold merchants, silver mines, etc.

We mustn't forget his investment into the Bank of Scotland where they even were going to place him on the Board. They were until it was pointed out no none islander had even been on the board prior and the Charles Taylor thing was really playing out. Consequently, Pat was relegated to another good idea gone bad. He just doesn't seem to have the luck due to that evil part of him.

My proposition for Pat is relatively simple: give me some seed money to start an organization to provide former televangelists with psychiatric, psychological and therapeutic assistance for their many maladies such as illusions of grandeur, schizoid personality, greed, avarice, and numerous other DSM IV listings as applicable. The best will be provided rehab therapy such as really having to work for the good of people; and god forbid, being honest. They also have to attend services provided by local Wiccans, adherents of Anton Lavey and Barney.

To sum it up, Pat has been absent without leave from his own beliefs for decades and substitutes the gold standard in their place.

Sad, but true. Wonder how many Marines he could have possibly helped prevent their demise during combat? Of course, thats something that never crosses his guiltless mind.

THE ABSENCE OF REASON

TREASURES FROM KING GEORGE II:

If we don't stop extending our troops all around the world in nation-building missions, then we're going to have a serious problem coming down the road. And I'm going to prevent that.

All of these provoking statements originated from the same source, President of the United States of America George W. Bush Jr., recently lambasted by spouse Laura on his manhood, bedroom habits and more in public.

Former Vice-President Dan Quayle created a whole new source of comedy income for thousands during his tenure. Here's a representative sample of his utterances:

Current Events

We expect them [Salvadoran officials] to work toward the elimination of human rights in accordance with the pursuit of justice.

When I have been asked during these last weeks who caused the riots and the killing in L.A., my answer has been direct and simple: Who is to blame for the riots? The rioters are to blame. Who is to blame for the killings? The killers are to blame.

[The US] condones violence in El Salvador.

-- Vice President Dan Quayle, 10/2/90 (reported in Esquire, 8/92)

Environment/Space

It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it.

Mars is essentially in the same orbit... Mars is somewhat the same distance from the Sun, which is very important. We have seen pictures where there are canals, we believe, and water. If there is water, that means there is oxygen. If there is oxygen, that means we can breathe. 8/11/89

Geography

Hawaii is a unique state. It is a small state. It is a state that is by itself. It is a... it is different than the other 49 states. Well, all states are different, but it’s got a particularly unique situation.

It’s wonderful to be here in the great state of Chicago!

Self/Philosophy

What a waste it is to lose one's mind-or not to have a mind. How true that is.
Addressing the United Negro College Fund

If we do not succeed, then we run the risk of failure.

I’ve heard people say that [I have a short attention span]. I don’t feel I do, because when I’m interested in something I’ll stay in focus as long as it is necessary... If you get off on something I’m not very interested in, it’s very easy for me to block it out. It’s easy for me to block things out.

Quite frankly, teachers are the only profession that teach our children. 9/18/90

My friends, no matter how rough the road may be, we can and we will never, never surrender to what is right.

Politics

I should have remembered that was Andrew Jackson who said that, since he got his nickname `Stonewall' by vetoing bills passed by Congress.

--Confusing Andrew Jackson with Confederate General Thomas J. `Stonewall' Jackson, who actually got his nickname at the first Battle of Bull Run.

I am not part of the problem; I am a Republican.

We are doing the right thing and we do not see the bad things.

A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls.

Now we are faced with an extremely tough decision prompted by investigation of these statements. Is President George W. Bush Jr. impersonating Dan Quayle or is Dan Quayle impersonating George W. Bush Jr. Perhaps both are impersonating Dick Cheney or Laura Bush. Its a tough call, but your help is needed to make the final determination.

Confirmation needs to occur each time Dan or George is seen consisting of the following: first, jump up and down stating, "its Dan, its Dan or if George, its George, its George". Then approach and ask them to spell potato. Dan Quayle will automatically add an e to the end and voila, you have an identification. President George is slightly different--ask him to read the word nuclear....if he says "nuklear", then its Dubya and another id is made. For gosh sake, don't ask why they didn't serve in Vietnam since both will run to their respective Fathers for help!

Beleive me, this is a matter of national security and only American citizens can make the call since both men have similar drawbacks in logic, syntax, and overall ability to speak English.

Let me know of your success and I will publish it here.............

Our future is at hand and America must know which of these sentence mutilators is which or what.............

HUE, SOUTH VIETNAM

LETTER FROM HUE, 1968

Once I absorbed John Wayne movies with pride.
My toy rifle held high; always winning
The Right Fantasy War For The Right Reason
Days were spent
Humming the right songs,
Saying the right words,
Thinking the right things
and
Faking forced school prayer.

At fourteen, I wondered if the Yankees would repeat.
And asked "Sir, what is Vietnam?"
The Sands of Iwo Jima convinced me
To Believe
To Believe
To Believe

At sixteen, sports, girls, and study were my life.
Military recruiters visted and I asked of Vietnam.
They said: "It will be over soon,
Trust Me,"
And "Trust Me,"
And " Trust Me."

At nineteen, I was drafted out of college;
Taught to hate in eight weeks;
and Kill
The rifles real
We were sharp
And so eager to give up our lives.
Generals demanded we
KILL THE GOOKS!
KILL THE GOOKS!
KILL THE GOOKS!

My twentieth birthday was spent in Hue, Vietnam.
The day's gore of the Tet Offensive gave way
To deadly black shadows.
We dug in deep-shot on sight.
Night was so dark-instinct my only mirror.
With only each other to hold onto.

Streets are barren now.
Early morning rain
Has washed away
Traces of those who once were.

Silence encases me...until a
Cutting winds whips viciously by
Breaking the monotonous speel;
Shattering the hiatus.

Even dead friends shudder
in their new plastic wombs;
Numbered tags flap
Noisily in the numbing breeze.
A mournful howl celebrates daybreak with us.

The sun rises
Once again.
I slowly climb out of my earthen coffin.
And glide over the rubble
That was once a church
in Hue yesterday.

Childhood fantasies are spread over
each foot of blood stained earth.
Glassy eyes look up beckoning me to join their journey
My private world
Of unspecified dimension bonded with fear;
I view other separate fractured worlds dying.
I almost feel.

I've forgotten
How To Hum
How To Speak
How To Smile
How To Trust
How To Believe

I look at dead friends with no tears
And whisper, "maybe, next time."
Sounds of their laughter are lost.
I live with that.

The rain starts again.
My earthen coffin calls out for me.

VIETNAM REMEMBERANCE

Yesterday marked the 30th anniversary of Saigon's fall and my reaction was one of saddness and memories. I was happy the war was over completely for this nation, but more so for the people of Vietnam what had endured almost 35 straight years of warfare initially with the French and then culminating with the Americans.

There was hope for peace in 1968, but it was also an election year. One of the same gentlemen who launched us into Vietnam initially, Richard M. Nixon, then Vice-President under President Dwight Eisenhower, feared being elected President in 1968 only to lose the war. He did not desire to become in his mind "the only president to lose a war." This wasn't quite true historically, but it was lodged dogmatically into Nixon's psyche forcing him to employ the same type of dirty tricks earlier.

President Johnson had successfully engaged the North Vietnamese in a series of meetings in Paris and was now approaching President Thieu, South Vietnam, to enter the negotiations to find a common basis for peace. Nixon, reacting strongly to this, immediately contacted Anna M. Chennault, wife of former General Clare Chennault of China Flying Tiger flame, and directed her to begin whirlwind negotiations with President Thieu to dissuade him from attending the talks thus prolonging the war. She was to convince Thieu he would get a better deal overall from Nixon after his election that from the democratic challenger, Hubert Humphrey, and would be assured of much. Thieu considered the offer over time and met with Mrs. Chennault several times for reassurance. There is also some speculation Mrs. Chennault traveled to Hanoi as well, but little substantiation can be found for this.

Efforts to dissuade Thieu were successful and the Paris Peace Talks fell through allowing the war to continue. Nixon's actions, as a civilian, were highly illegal and could be construed as acts of treason since private citizens cannot negotiate with foreign heads of state. President Johnson became aware of Nixon's overtures and had Nixon's political career in his hands if he had chosen to make the public aware of it. Further, he could have ordered the Federal Bureau of Investigation to investigate and DOJ to indict the Californian. Yet, for some reason, he chose not to.

The end result was the continuation of the war for 4 more years at a sizeable cost of lives on all sides. In addition, the war was carried over to Cambodia, Laos and Southern China until Congress rebelled at the lies and cost. Outrage in America was enormous and demonstrations resulted in student killings at Kent State and serious injuries at others.

Nixon eventually was impeached, but resigned in lieu of full impeachment in August, 1974. Further, President Gerry Ford pardoned him for any past crimes committed such as command and control of the Watergate breakin; illegally entering Daniel Ellsberg's psychiatrist's office; accepting campaign contributions from foreign powers covertly; and a multitude of other crimes which the average citizen is not aware of.

The end result: Nixon went on to "rehabilitate" himself into a elder statesmen of sorts, but many historians, such as myself, were fully aware of his many failures in foreign policy, the area he prided himself on most. Henry Kissinger went back into private business becoming a solicitor and broker for many foreign countries which he refuses to name. Kissinger became a pariah after leaving federal service and is looked upon as the one who really should have been indicted for crimes.

America is still recuperating from the aftereffects of Vietnam. Not only the physical/mental trauma our GIs experienced, but the highly visible war lost us many friends throughout the world. Many gains had been made since 1975, but the Iraq invasion opened up the Vietnam wound again exposing many of the same mistakes and governmental faces appearing again to give questional reassurances and answers.

Most of all, Vietnam was our period in darkness, a Jungian concept, from which we have not truly came back. Our period in darkness frightened this nation almost to the point of utter rebellion. Explosions racked financial institutions, prison rebellions, nearly a million veterans marching on Washington DC and secretive actions to spy among American citizens using the Armed Forces, CIA, and many other groups. It was almost unheard of in our nation, but Nixon unleased the full brunt of it to stymy what he perceived falsely as a potential communist takeover of the government.

It was a very frightening historical period which perhaps even the current one overshadows. You must remember, however, the system worked then and can again regardless of machinations by those within the White House.

Keep a sense of humor and remember the Nixon rally cry among Vietnam Vets in 1972:
Don't change Dicks in the middle of a screw; Vote for Nixon in 72.

On a sadder note, I lost a lot of good friends in Vietnam including some from my home town area. Please bear with me.....Rest in peace Dick Westberg, Harvey Gilbert, Darwin Judge, Darryl Bittner and those who I knew of, but had not the honor of meeting. Give em hell wherever you're at!

Apparently, one of my cousins read my last blog and brought back a memory for me. During Halloween of my 17th year we were pariticpating in a time honored custom of tipping over outhouses. One was found that was particularly well based and great effort had to be expended. I was on one side pushing with all my might when the house went over quickly causing me to lose my balance thus falling into the deep dark hole of Calcutta. Now understanding, my cousins are wonderful people, but enjoy a good laugh before offering any type of substantial help. In this case, I was in dire need of a rope, nose plugs and probably a good hose job before going to the Caribbean to escape. I was tossed a rope and began my rather crappy trek towards the top, but found very few relativess when arriving.

My smell had preceded me and there was no way a spot was going to be given in their car nor even in the trunk. Consequently, I walk approximately 3 miles to our farm, grabbed some old clothers from an outer building and then plunged into a cold horse tank. Though it helped somewhat, my Grandparents and Mother handed me various items of clothing, vinegar, tomato juice, etc,. while stifling a great amount of laughter. I bathed myself again outside with these fluids and then entered the house to take a nice long hot shower.

The next day found my cousins coming by to touch me--that is to make sure I hadn't melted away during my abortive trip. They really are wonderful people!!

THE UNSINKABLE UNSHAKEABLE INITIAL POST

Its only been years in the making and finally the time is here to create the blog. I'm grateful to Blogspot for the opportunity; my producer (Mom now deceased); and for my arse not getting shot off in the military.

There's a great shortage of common sense in this nation right now. Seemingly, most would rather listen to the blatherings of Scott McClellan, Tom DeLay, Ann Coulter, and television commericals rather than question? How did it get to this point you ask? Simplicity and apathy is favored instead of complexity. Wow, was that profound, but how true...

Let me give you an example. I grew up on a farm in Iowa and we were all dependent on the soil for our livelihood. One day our neighbor, Clell, came by to talk with my Grandfather, Jim, about the current state of affairs in their same age span. Their conversations were always animated, colorful and not completely devoid of expletive deletives.

Clell's grandson came driving a tractor pulling a loaded grainwagon with one side seriously listing into our barnyard. The front left tire was breathing the last of a series of gasps and begged of serious attention to the grandson who was more content to wave. Clell yelled in that commanding tone always heard from parental figures combining love with the fear of god. Gaining the youngster's attention, Clell told him to do something about that damn tire which the youth immediate sprung up and set to work.

Our attention was drawn elsewhere, but something nagged at me. Easiest way to reinject lefe into a tire those days was removing a spark plug from the tractor engine and then reinsert a another plug inflation device connected to a hose which, in turn, screwed onto the other tire stem. Sounds complicated, but it was not a difficult process.

Well, the grandson was not asking about location of an inflation device or anything out of the ordinary. He was, instead, walking around letting air out of the other three tires to equalize the wagon. I smiled and wondered to myself.

Clell noticed this, got a big smile on his face, scratched the back of his head and said only he just had to talk to that boy some day.

Seems we are all having difficulty talking with our elected representatives in the White House and Congress. Well, remember this, just gotta talk to them one day!

Speaking of common sense, there was another time when my age was about 16. It was July 4th and a group of my cousins conviced me to use my car to spread patriotic fervor by tossing firecrackers, et. al., from the windows. Sounded like a good idea to me and all joined in the festivities until the one thing happened.

I was so overcome with patriotism I lit a Silver Salute (comparable to an M-80) and threw the match out the window. Oddly enough, there was a combined deep gasp and you would thought a Sea Captain had yelled the order to abandon ship. I have never seen 5 people evacuate a Chevy so masterfully in my life. Of couse, the fuse was continuing to burn low so it was tossed out the window at the last possible moment and I merrily continued down the road.

I did turn around and slowly picked up the acrobatic cracker tossers who advised me on the lacking characterisitics of my actions and suggested I place another Silver Salute in a certain part of my anatomy. Too painful and I suggested we just go home, drink some cold soda and chill out. Case closed.

There was another time my cousin Jerry came to visit and he was a really wonderful guy. Now Jeryy had a good mind and would often wonder about some of the things told him. It was good characteristic and of course, we, as wonderful cousins, would never josh him about anything. He was a hard one to pin down until the subject of flatulation was brought up. Now, it was carefully explained to him that flatulent gas was highly inflammable and was collected in certain parts of Europe as a natural fuel. Jerry scoffed at this and mentioned he had never heard such a tall tale before. Natural he was dared to build up flatulence and place flame to the appropriate spot to prove the theory. He did not succumb to our antics until cousin Gary gave him the odious triple dog dare with crossed finger. It was getting dark when Jerry stood with all the resolution of a great athlete, walked out onto the gravel road, dropped his drawers and placed a lighter to that particular spot. The flatulation arrived, the bic was clicked and all we saw was a blue flame racing down the road, into our barnyard and headfirst into the water trough.

Jerry had successfully proven the theory, but walked rather gingerly for the next few days. His mother didn't think much about it, buy Uncle Clyde, Jerry's Dad, gave him some udder salve as a present and encouraged him to use it. Jerry never brought up the subject again, bu he will always be remembered as the blue flame among the lightning bugs on that warm summer evening.

Words Of Wisdom: He and my Grandmother were married for 61 years. The followiing response was given when she was asked about the secret of their success: "Well, our marriage was a democracy. I would always listen to his opinion, give it some thought; and then tell him my opinion. Then do it my way!"
